GREATER UNDERSTANDING LEADS TO HEALTHIER OUTCOMES
PEDAGOGUES EDUCATED TEACHING STAFFS FROM 10 PRIMARY SCHOOLD OF HERZEGOVINA-NERETVA CANTON ON BEHAVIORAL AND EMOTIONAL DISORDERS OF CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS

After the success of seminars entitled "Behavioral and emotional disorders of children and adolescents", held for pedagogues and psychologists from ten partner primary schools in Herzegovina-Neretva Canton as part of the project "Peer and gender-based violence" from April to May 2018, 10 trainings on this topic were organized in these partner schools from mid-May to mid-June 2018. The trainings were attended by lower-grade teachers and subject teachers, and the training moderators were pedagogues of these schools who delivered quality lectures to their colleagues in a collective effort. Each training was attended by representatives from HNC Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, Pedagogy Institute and Mostar Education Institute, as well as a SOS Children's Villages. The goal of trainings on behavioral and emotional disorders of children and adolescents is to inform and empower school employees in order to create a better approach to issues related to behavioral disorders in primary school children.
As part of the three-year project "Peer and gender-based violence" implemented by TPO Foundation in cooperation with cantonal ministries of education of HNC, SC and CBC, there are planned activities which are intended to empower school employees by reinforcing the triangle of teacher-parent-child cooperation.

By having teachers, parents and children act as partners, trust and understanding are built in addition to skills necessary to prevent and address within school communities all challenges which are often a result or cause of some types of violence. TPO Foundation, aware of the many issues teachers face when dealing with different behavioral disorders of children, organized seminars for pedagogues and then trainings for teachers and parents on the issue. This was a unique opportunity for teachers to discuss some cases they had in their classrooms and to learn about different types, causes and consequences of those disorders in order to be better prepared for solving similar issues in the future. The teachers were of the opinion that trainings of this kind improve cooperation between parents, children with behavioral difficulties and teachers, because better understanding and improved skills necessary for adequately dealing with these issues inevitably lead to healthier outcomes for children and school communities.  Primary schools were the educational activites were organized are: Ilija Jakovljević, Treća osnovna škola, Antun Branko Šimić Mostar, Ivan Gundulić, IV osnovna škola, Mustafa Ejubović-Šejh Jujo, Gonjnice, Blagaj, Ilići and Zalik.
